About Bryan Adams
There are many successful Canadian singers-songwriters. The list is too long and too distinguished, but it includes, to name just a selected few, Avril Lavigne, k.d. lang, Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, the late Robbie Robertson, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, Gordon Lightfoot, Jony Mitchel and Neil Young. And then, there is the grandmaster himself, the late Leonard Cohen. Somewhere close to the very top stand Bryan Adams.
With a voice that resembles The Eagles' Don Henly, light guitar work and a series of ballads that cuts right to the heart, Adams' work track, as well as his long list of No. 1 hits and millions of albums and singles' sales and countless songs he has written, or co-written to others, and with others, is a testimony for his longevity and place atop the pyramid for the last 40 years.
Or, to put it quite simply in the words of Coldplay's Chris Martin, while introducing Adams into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2006: "He's pretty amazing".
Adams has always said that his main influence, as well as his early body of work, is the hard rock of late 60's and early to mid-70's, with guitars screaming. He has cited Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore as his main hero and influence. And yet, it was his romantic ballads. both for records as well as material written for movies, that helped him reach top of the charts.
Bryan Adams started his musical career in mid-70's in Toronto, where he joined several bands. His first album, "Bryan Adams", was released in 1980 and went gold in Canada. His second album, "You Want It You Got It", broke into the American charts. It was his third album, "Cuts Like a Knife", released in 1983, that broke all the barriers, with top 10 hits like "Straight from the Heart", "Cuts Like a knife" and "This Time".
Ever since, Adams has sold over 100 million albums and singles and has performed live in front of over 100 million audience in over 80 countries worldwide. Up to date, Adams has released 15 studio albums, the last was "So Happy It Hurts" (2022). He has written music for four motion pictures.
Bryan Adams has won 20 Juno Awards and one Grammy Award.
He went on the road for 21 world tours. The last one is the "So Happy It Hurts Tour" which started in 2022 with shows in North America through 2023.
